- Earth Leakage Current give rise to generation of heat and result in progressive failure of insulation, which leads to earth faults sparking flashovers, deterioration of earthing and finally results into catastrophic fires which destroys costly equipments, gadgets and precious lives. It is therefore essential to detect earth leakage current well before they cross the threshold limits and isolate the circuit in the event of leakages.

ELR transmits a signal to activate the trip coil of the MCCB/ACB/OCB/CONTACTOR in the event of earth leakage resulting in automatic isolation of the load . ELR have been widely used and accepted because of field adaptability and are economic.

Prok dv’s make DIGITAL MICROPROCESSOR / MICROCONTROLLER BASED IDMT / DEFINITE TIME / INSTANTANEOUS EARTH FAULT RELAY (EFR) can be employed with various earth fault protective schemes, which are explained in brief with figures. The magnitude of the earth fault current depends on the fault impedance and invariably the fault impedance for earth fault is higher than that for phase faults, hence the earth fault current is low compared to the phase fault currents. The fault impedance depends on the system parameter and also on type of earthing. The neutral may be solidly grounded, grounded through resistance or reactance.

The heart of the relay is microcontroller based reliable hardware with special algorithms to calculate the tripping time. The relay continuously monitors the Three Phase Currents to build the thermal replica of the Motor. This thermal replica is used to protect the Motor against Thermal over Loads.

- Whenever the load current exceeds the Set limit, power is instantaneously switched off and resets automatically after 9 seconds. If the over load still exists, this cycle is (3Sec ON & 6Sec OFF) repeated for every 9 sec. ACCL will enter into Lock Out mode after 5 ON & OFF cycles, if over load of the DG still persists. User has to manually Reset the ACCL. Note: However tripping cycles can be configured according to user choice
